Joel S. Perwin is one of Florida's leading appellate lawyers. He has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America since 1995; in the top tier category for appellate attorneys in Chamber's USA's America's Leading Lawyers for Business since it began rating appellate lawyers in 2004; in South Florida's Best Lawyers, Florida Super Lawyers, South Florida's Legal Guide to Top Lawyers, Florida Trend's Legal Elite, and virtually every other publication recognizing the outstanding lawyers who practice in Florida and throughout the United States. As of 2008 he had over 400 reported appellate decisions -- 36 from the Florida Supreme Court; 46 from the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit; and 2 from the United States Supreme Court.
 
Mr. Perwin was born and raised in Coral Gables, Florida. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard College in 1970, where he was National Intercollegiate Debating Champion his Junior year. He graduated Cum Laude in 1974 from Harvard Law School, where he served as Articles Editor of the Harvard Law Review.  Before returning to Miami in 1981, Mr. Perwin served as Counsel to the United States Senate Judiciary Committee; Associate Counsel to Vice President Walter F. Mondale; Assistant United States Attorney in Washington, D.C.; and law clerk to the Honorable Bailey Aldrich of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Mr. Perwin was a shareholder for twenty two years in the Miami law firm of Podhurst, Orseck, P.A., specializing in appellate litigation and trial support, before establishing his own firm in 2004, where he continues that practice.
 
Mr. Perwin has been a Board member of the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers, now the Florida Justice Association, as well as Chairman of it Amicus Curiae Committee and its Appellate Practice Section; and a Board member of the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida, as well as a member of its Legal Committee. He handles all forms of civil litigation, offering support on major legal matters at the trial level, and appeals on all subjects and issues.
